Fascinating and Novel Bible Knowledge

Being the most famous book ever written, there exists a lot of lesser-known facts about the Bible. However, just because these facts are not common knowledge, it doesn’t mean they are not noteworthy.

Uncommon Facts About & Within The Bible

Remarkable and Rare Bibles

~There is a nano-printed version of the Old Testament. All 1.2 million letters are printed onto a 5 by 5-millimeter aluminum disk that requires an electron microscope to read.

~The Bay Psalm Book is a version of the Book of Psalms that was translated by Puritan ministers in 1640. It is the first book to be published in what is now the United States.

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1928.

~A misprint of the Bible in 1611 uses the word “she” instead of “he” in Ruth 3:15. Thus earning the name the “She Bible.”

~The Waynai Bible is the biggest Bible in the world. It comes in weighing over 1000 pounds, is 43.5 inches tall, and when opened wide it is a whopping 98 inches! When Waynai Bible is closed shut, the spine is 34 inches thick. Minister Louis Waynai took two years to print the text on each page with his custom-made rubber stamp press.

~The author of the Brick Bible created some of the most famous Bible scenes out of Lego bricks. Photos of the scenes were coupled with Bible passages to make this fun and kid-friendly (yet, somewhat controversial) version of the Bible.

~In 1631, a critical error was made in one of the earlier English translations of the Bible. This Bible is now known as the Sinner’s/Wicked Bible because the publisher accidentally omitted the word “not” from the 7th commandment, thus stating: Thou shalt commit adultery. Around 1000 copies of this Bible were printed, and only 9 of them exist today.

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or fewer. This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1928.

~In 1998, calligrapher Donald Jackson took on the project of creating the St. John’s Bible. The St. John’s Bible took 13 years and 8 million dollars to complete. It measures 24 inches tall and 36 inches wide when opened. The Bible and its 1150 pages weigh in at 165 pounds. A team of scribes used 130-year-old Chinese ink to elegantly handwrite and illustrate each word with the quills of goose, swan, and turkey feather pens.
